RAISING PENICILLIN ALLERGY AWARENESS
Every year on September 28, the day is dedicated to raising awareness about the often-misunderstood issue of penicillin allergy. The date for National Penicillin Allergy Day was chosen because it’s the anniversary of the discovery of penicillin by Alexander Fleming in 1928.

National Penicillin Allergy Day is more than a commemorative date — it’s a call to action. By acknowledging how often penicillin allergies are misreported, understanding the risks and costs of that mislabel, and promoting evidence-based evaluation and delabeling, we can improve patient care, reduce unnecessary antibiotic use, and help slow the march of antibiotic resistance.
