Mary Hudelson, MD - Top Allergists in Denton & Flower Mound - Family Allergy & Asthma Care

Mary Hudelson, MD – DABAI, Director

Treating allergy patients is often like solving a mystery and requires time spent listening and gathering data in order to create a treatment plan that works! Now that’s truly fun!

When I founded FAAC in 1993, I wanted to do things differently to provide an innovative patient-centered experience. That’s why, when you visit us, we are able provide services such as allergy testing, sinus CT scans, and lung function tests in the office at the same time as your appointment; we offer extended office hours; and the same clinical team member stays with you through your entire visit.

My military service as an Army reservist activated for Operation Desert Storm was a life-changing experience. Not only did I meet my husband, I solidified my passion to care for entire families because it was my job to care for the military dependents (children and spouses) of Aviano Base in Italy while their family member was deployed. Upon my return to the U.S., I chose allergy/immunology as a specialty, partly because I would be able to care for all ages of people – babies to centenarians. And that’s just what I have done! And now, I’ve been in practice long enough that I often get to see the children of the children I cared for!

I love being an allergist! Every day, I am thankful for the opportunity I have to compassionately partner with patients and family members to make a positive difference in their lives.

Marie Fitzgerald, MD – DABAI,
North Texas Pollen Station Director

I am passionate about improving every patient’s quality of life through better control of their asthma and allergies. I had allergies as a child and my treatment was life changing for me. I want to make that possible for others. It is so rewarding when one of my patients comes in and tells me how their asthma no longer hinders them from sports or their allergies no longer hinder them from their outdoor activities.

My interest and passion in allergies and asthma began at an early age. My dad was one of the early allergists in Texas. When he would come home in the evenings, I saw the joy he received from treating allergy and asthma as well as helping his patients find improved health. My dad was ahead of his time basing treatment for patients on the local pollen he counted at his station on the top of a Dallas building in the early 1950’s. For 15 years, I have enjoyed being the director of our nationally–certified pollen counting station which is one of two certified stations in the metroplex. We provide counts for other allergists in our region which helps everyone better care for families.

As a mom, I’ve experienced the panic and anxiety of raising kids with food allergies and asthma. I know the impact on families firsthand, and that has created an innate passion to continue to learn all that I can to treat patients of all ages, infant to elder. Just like my colleagues, I’m double-boarded in allergy and immunology, as well as internal medicine. I’m also a fellow of the American Academy of Allergy and Immunology. Through my experience as an associate professor of medicine at UT Southwestern, being a mother, and doctor, I know that listening to patients and working with them to find the best treatment for their lifestyle is critical.

Dr. Sasha Alvarado - Top Allergists in Denton & Flower Mound - Family Allergy & Asthma Care

SASHA ALVARADO, DO – DABAI

Being an allergist/immunologist is a dream job for me. This specialty is one of the areas in medicine where we can still take the time to learn about the patient as a whole person – their lifestyle, their environment, and their personal goals. Our focus is always to improve quality of life.

I suffered from allergies as a child, and I believed that I would just always have to live with my symptoms. I had eczema, terrible sneezing, stuffy and runny nose, and recurrent bronchitis every winter. I was suspected to be allergic to pollens and had all kinds of restrictions on my activities – no going to recess at school in the winter, no visiting the mall during the holidays, no playing in the grass, etc. My symptoms were so pervasive in college that I was referred to an allergist, and getting immunotherapy truly changed my life. I love hearing the same thing from my patients, now.

My residency training was internal medicine, and I love that this specialty has given me the opportunity to treat all ages. My fellowship training was in the pediatric department at LSU seeing equal numbers of children and adults, and this gave me a comprehensive education. Having my own kids (one with eczema) in addition to working in a pediatric department has made me very comfortable treating children. I love seeing kids and making sure their allergies don’t limit them.

Compassionately caring for your family.

ANGELICA YBANEZ-BENNETT, PA-C - Top Allergists in Denton & Flower Mound | Family Allergy & Asthma Care

Angelica Ybanez-Bennett, Board Certified, PA-C

I have always been passionate about health and wellness. For 9 years, I cared for patients in a primary care setting and truly enjoyed my patients and diligently strived to help them establish a healthier lifestyle. It’s now been my privilege to care for patients in the allergy and asthma specialty for the past 10 years at Family Allergy & Asthma Care.

I enjoy developing relationships with my patients at FAAC and always want to communicate clearly and compassionately to provide a collaborative approach. I want each patient to receive the highest level of personalized care and clearly understand their healthcare plan.

I enjoy all aspects of allergy and asthma but one area of allergy I am truly passionate about is food allergy. It brings me such joy to see the food allergy patients achieve their individual goals. Many of the food allergy patients I see come in on a weekly basis for oral immunotherapy and I truly look forward to our time together.

I want to make the process easy, clear and comfortable for each one of them and partner with their families to make life less challenging and develop a pathway to freedom. That freedom can make simple things like going out to eat a joy instead of a fear. My goal is to help make their life easier and less challenging. I am blessed to be the Mom of twin boys. I love spending time with my family, playing sports and being outdoors. It is rewarding to me to be in allergy and asthma where I can help other people feel better and be able to spend time with their family doing the things they love!

For 19 years, I cared for patients as a physician assistant in a primary care setting. This opportunity has given me a unique understanding of how many factors can influence a person’s quality of life. There are many aspects of life outside of healthcare that can affect a person’s wellbeing including financial and social issues, further complicated by the fast-paced world in which we live.

My goal is to treat the whole person, giving our patients the tools they need to live their best life. I’m here to help people find confidence and comfort during treatment of their allergy and asthma conditions.

Living with allergies and asthma can limit many aspects of a person’s life, including simple things such as being outside, going to a new restaurant or exercising. An open discussion about patients’ needs is crucial when developing an effective treatment plan. Voted in the top 10 percent nationally for effective provider communication, I know the importance of a two-way dialogue. At the center of appointments is listening and effective communication. I’m honored to care for people and to have the opportunity to develop a relationship with them. It is what I want as a patient and for the care of my husband and two daughters.

Emily Williams, Board Certified, PA-C

Patient Testimonials

See what our families have to say about Family Allergy & Asthma Care.
My son has been doing oral immunotherapy at the clinic for his peanut allergy and we couldn't be happier. Amanda is helpful, very pleasant, and so supportive. We are so appreciative of the great care that he gets at the clinic. Thank you for all that you do.

Dr. Hudelson figured out how to clear up the eczema and blepharitis on my eyelids. I had been to seven different doctors and made no progress and got no relief for my swollen, red, peeling eyelids. Not only did Dr. Hudelson get my skin cleared up, I am now able to wear make-up again, which I did not think would be possible.

They really make you feel like a person and not just a number. They are very thorough and explain everything without leaving anything to question. Allergy testing was a breeze and setting up for injections is just as easy. Couldn't imagine going to any other doctor for all my allergy/asthma needs.
