October is Eczema Awareness month

Each October, millions of people come together to recognize Eczema Awareness Month—a time dedicated to understanding, supporting, and raising awareness for those living with eczema. In 2025, the theme continues to highlight the importance of education, empathy, and advocacy for the more than 31 million Americans affected by this chronic skin condition.
Eczema, also known as atopic dermatitis, is a chronic inflammatory skin condition that causes redness, dryness, itching, and irritation. While symptoms can range from mild to severe, the condition often impacts a person’s daily life, mental health, and self-esteem. Flares may be triggered by allergens, irritants, stress, weather changes, or even certain foods.
WHY AWARENESS MATTERS
Eczema is more than just “dry skin.” It’s a whole-body condition linked to the immune system, and it can disrupt sleep, concentration, and emotional well-being. For children, it can affect school performance and confidence. For adults, it can impact careers, relationships, and quality of life. By raising awareness, we reduce stigma and build understanding that this condition deserves medical attention, research, and compassion.
Learn & Share: Take time to read and share reliable resources about eczema with your friends, family, or workplace. The more people understand the condition, the more supportive environments become.
Support Advocacy Groups: Organizations like the National Eczema Association (NEA) lead efforts in education, research funding, and community support. Consider donating or joining a fundraiser.
Be a Voice: If you or a loved one has eczema, sharing your story can encourage others and help end misconceptions. Social media campaigns often use hashtags like #EczemaAwareness and #EczemaWarrior.
Practice Empathy: Small acts—like recognizing that scratching is a symptom, not a habit—go a long way in supporting someone with eczema.
